Sunny stretch ahead—mind the 401, catch some live music tonight

Morning, T.O. It's warming up nicely today—17°C and mostly cloudy, which beats what we've been sitting through. Sun doesn't set until 9:03 p.m., so you've got a real evening to work with if you're heading out later. UV's at 5, so if you're spending time outside, dial in the sunscreen.

The commute's got some friction this morning. The 401 eastbound is getting hammered—all lanes closed on the collector ramp at Morningside, and the same situation at Neilson Road. Express side at Victoria Park has one right lane and shoulder shut down. If you're heading that way, leave early or find another route. On surface streets, the 17 Birchmount's detoured via Comstock, Warden and Ashtonbee because of a collision, and 112 West Mall's rerouting through Eringate and Renforth for construction. Give yourself extra time if you're in those zones.

Few things worth knowing as you move through your day. Parkdale's rallying to save a 150-year-old maple from the bulldozers—there's a real neighbourhood push happening there. Meanwhile, the housing squeeze is getting genuinely brutal: bunk bed rentals in Scarb are hitting a grand a month. Worth keeping an eye on as the rental market keeps tightening.

If you're thinking about food, there's real movement happening. Magnolia Bakery's landing 10 Ontario locations this year, and Cumbrae's just opened a sprawling spot on Dundas with a restaurant and wine bar attached. There's also a new bar at Mirvish Village that's part bookstore, part dating scene—book club nights, author talks, singles events. If you're looking to book something nicer, six solid Toronto restaurants are in the Summerlicious rotation right now. For tonight, grab something spicy if that's your ting—there's a feature on four spots where the heat absolutely lands.

This evening's got options depending on what you're after. The Tempo's hosting the LA Sparks at the Coliseum at 7 p.m. if hoops is calling. For live music, We Were Sharks and friends are at Sneaky Dee's at 6:30, Jhariah's at the Drake at 7, and America's at Massey Hall at 7—classic rock if you want to dress up. If you're into World Cup, there's a Japan vs. Sweden viewing party at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre at 4 p.m.—good spot to catch the game with your people.

Stay sorted out there. See you tonight.
