Heat warning Saturday — stay cool, catch some live music tonight
It's a scorcher in T.O. today. Plan indoors for the afternoon heat; plenty of good reasons to.
Saturday's a hot one — 23°C on paper, but humidity's pushing it to feel like 32. That UV's sitting at 9 (high), so if you do head outside, you're going to want shade and sunscreen. The heat warning's locked in through today, so this is a "air conditioning is your friend" kind of afternoon. Good news: sunset isn't until 9:02 PM, so you've got a long evening to play with once the sun starts dropping.
Getting around: Keep an eye on the 404 Northbound express between the 401 and further north—flooding's taken out the right lane and shoulder. The 427 Northbound express at Dundas has a disabled vehicle blocking the right side too. Eglinton West around Black Creek's also seeing some work. Nothing that should derail you if you're heading out, but don't be surprised if things move a touch slower than usual.
On the local front: Surrey Place's staff strike has paused therapy services for families and adults with disabilities—worth knowing if that affects someone you care about. There's also been some serious incidents this week: a woman hit by a vehicle near East Mall in Etobicoke, and two young guys injured in an e-scooter crash near the same area, one of them critically. Stay sharp out there.
If you're thinking lunch or dinner, Summerlicious has 230 Toronto restaurants running discounted three-course menus right now—solid way to try somewhere new without breaking the bank. Low-ABV canned cocktails are having a moment for park hangs too, if you're planning an evening outdoors where the heat's finally easing.
Tonight's got legs: &ME's playing Woodbine Park at 4 PM if you want an earlier outdoor ting. idobi Radio's Summer School kicks off at the Phoenix Concert Theatre at 5 PM with Honey Revenge and others—that's air-conditioned and sounds like a banger. Casa Loma's got "Dressing the Abbey" exhibit opening at 5:30 PM, and if theatre's your thing, there's Broadway and Cirque du Soleil running indoors all night. Heat warning means you're actually going to want to be inside anyway, so lean into it.
Stay hydrated out there—this one's a real scorcher. See you on the other side.
