Wednesday's Got Heat, Theatre, and the Tempo Taking the Court

It's going to be a proper summer day out there—20 degrees but feels more like 26, mainly sunny, and the UV's sitting at 9, which is high, so if you're spending time outside, get some sunscreen on. You've got a full fifteen hours of daylight to work with; the sun doesn't drop until just after 9 tonight, so there's real evening left when you're done work.

Couple things to know for getting around: Eglinton Ave W between Rostrevor and Peveril is torn up because of a fire at 334 Eglinton, so if you're heading that way, take Bathurst, Wembley, or Old Park around it. Down on Queen, the 301 streetcar's got a detour eastbound via Broadview, Gerrard, and Coxwell thanks to a security incident—add a few minutes if that's your route. Don Mills up near Gateway's also got some work happening if you're heading north.

Worth knowing: a Mercedes driver allegedly struck a parking enforcement officer over a ticket at Queens Quay, which is a rough situation. Also, the Tempo's been holding their own in the WNBA halfway through their inaugural season, sitting ninth in the standings—they're taking on Golden State at the Coliseum tonight at 7, if you want to catch some basketball.

If you're thinking dinner, there's some new energy around the city. Shawarma Palace, the Ottawa institution that's had loyal locals for thirty years, is landing in Toronto this fall. And if you've got serious cash and want to go full luxury, Chotto Matte and King and Bay just launched a $5,500-per-person omakase experience with custom tailoring. For something lower-key, there's Don Tell on Ossington with French-Asian bites and live music, or Shinji in the Financial District doing Japanese barbecue with premium Wagyu.

As for the evening: if theatre's your speed, there's a bunch running tonight. Water for Elephants and The Outsiders are both playing, and there's a Leonard Cohen tribute show called The Secret Chord at CAA Theatre if you want something intimate. Hotel California is doing a tribute at Casa Loma if you're in the mood for that vibe. The Tempo game at the Coliseum at 7 is the marquee sports event—proper WNBA action on a Wednesday night is still worth the trip.

With the weather being warm and dry all day, it's an easy call to get outside before sunset, or settle in for something indoors tonight. You're in luck either way.
