Sunday's yours—sunny, warm, plenty to do before dark.
17°C and blue skies all day. Some road noise on the 401. Good day to get out.
It's a proper summer Sunday in T.O.—17 degrees, full sun, and you've got nearly 15 hours of daylight to work with. The UV's running high at 8.0, so sunscreen isn't optional if you're spending real time outside. You'll want to make the most of it; sunset's at 8:59 PM, so you've got a long evening to play with.
Road-wise, there's a disabled vehicle causing slowdowns on the 401 Eastbound collector ramp at McCown Road (right lane closed) and another one on the Westbound express at Yonge that's got a left lane tied up. Cherry Street's closed both ways where it meets Lake Shore Boulevard East. Nothing that's going to wreck your day if you're planning local, but worth knowing if you're heading to the airport or out to Scarb.
There's some real heaviness on the radar this week—a mass shooting at the Salsa on St. Clair festival left two people dead and five wounded. A stabbing at Woodbine Beach earlier in the week landed one man and one teen in custody. The city's wrestling with bigger-picture stuff too: overtime and sick leave costs climbed nearly $48 million over two years. These are things worth sitting with, even on a Sunday.
On a lighter note, if you're hunting food, there's some good moves happening. Friday Burger Company's got a secret omakase menu launching—worth a scoop if you're into that kind of thing. Sunnys Chinese is running a summer BBQ series with some of the city's top chefs. If you're thinking date night or just a nice dinner out, there's a whole piece floating around about spots beyond the white-tablecloth formal scene.
Tonite's got options depending on your mood. Cirque du Soleil's Luzia is under the big top, reggaeton's at the RBC Amphitheatre with Arcangel and Lunay at 7 PM, and if you want something lower-key, there's always the Rogers Centre ballpark tours at 8. Casa Loma's running "Breathtaking Gardens" from 9 AM if you want a daytime move before everything else.
One heads-up if you've been meaning to catch Electric Bill on Ossington—the Australia-themed bar's closing August 16 after two years, so if that's your spot, get in soon.
Get outside, catch some sun, and make tonight count. See you out there.
