Heat warning Tuesday — grab your shades and plan the evening early

Morning. We're sitting at 23°C right now but it'll feel closer to 30 by midday, and there's a heat warning in effect today — so if you're heading out, you'll want the sunscreen. UV's running at 9 (high), which means don't sleep on the protection. Sun's not down until nearly 9 p.m., so you've got a long, bright day ahead. Dress light, drink water, and if you can grab lunch somewhere with AC, you won't regret it.

Commute's rough this morning. The Don Valley Parkway southbound on-ramp from Lawrence Ave E is closed, so if that's your usual route, find another way. The 401's also got some friction — westbound's dealing with a collision at Carlingview (right lane and shoulder down), a disabled vehicle around Kennedy in Scarborough, and another disabled vehicle over in the Etobicoke Creek transfer area. Might be worth leaving five minutes earlier if you're heading that way, or checking the Rocket's status if transit's your move.

Few things worth knowing as the day unfolds: the Tempo picked up a win against New York Liberty yesterday, 93-91, which means the city's in a good mood. If you're into that kind of chatter, enjoy the bragging rights. On a different note, Ontario education workers are sounding alarms about an EA shortage coming into August contract talks — worth paying attention to if you've got kids in school or work in that space.

If you're looking to eat, Kensington Market just got a new spot worth scoping — Mig's Sandwich Bar opened inside Supermarket with proper, chef-made sandwiches. If the heat's got you craving something cold, the ice cream boom is real in T.O. right now. Cloudberry, Brokn Milk, and Kela have all opened this summer, so there's no shortage of options if you want to cool down properly.

Tonight's the move if you're up for it. The Tempo play Washington Mystics at Coca-Cola Coliseum at 7 p.m. — that's the marquee event if you're a basketball person. If live music or theatre's more your speed, there's plenty on: Arny Margret at Drake Underground, & Juliet over at the Royal Alexandra if musicals are calling your name, or Rock Symphony at Casa Loma if you want something a bit different. With sunset not until nearly 9, you've got time to grab dinner and catch something outdoors if the heat's letting up by then.

Stay hydrated out there, and if you're heading anywhere tonight, just know the sun's going to be around for a while yet.
