Friday night's live, but keep the windows closed.
Air quality's rough and the 401's a mess—but the weekend's within reach. Here's what you need.
It's 19 degrees and smoky out there this morning. The air quality's elevated (AQHI sitting at 11.0), which means if you're sensitive to smoke—asthma, older folks, little kids—this is a day to keep it indoors when you can. The good news: it's supposed to improve as the day goes on. You've got 15 hours of daylight and sunset's at 8:55 PM, so there's time to play with. UV's running high though, so if you do get outside, slap on sunscreen.
Getting around T.O. this morning, the 401 Express is congested in both directions from collisions—left lanes closed eastbound at both 400 and Keele. If you're heading that way, budget extra time and maybe stick to the collector lanes. There's also a disabled vehicle on the QEW Toronto-bound at Dixie in Sauga, right lane pinched. The streetcar's got a detour too: the 501 Queen's running via Church, King East, and Parliament because of a medical emergency, so factor that in if that's your route.
On the local front, Toronto police stats show shootings are at their lowest point in five years—solid news for the city. Meanwhile, the air quality's been rough the last couple days, but it's turning a corner today. And if you follow the Raps, Kawhi Leonard's still got ties to the team despite whatever's happening with the Clippers and the league.
Food-wise, there's good stuff opening or changing shape. Harbord Village's Maven just launched Rose's Pantry for prepared foods and takeout. Over on St. Clair East, Mythos—the Greek frozen yogurt chain—opened their first North American spot. If you're in Trinity Bellwoods territory and want to picnic proper, Nadège Pâtisserie's got European-style baskets now at prices that won't hurt. And fair warning: PG Clucks on College just closed after a decade of Nashville hot chicken—they're pivoting to pita instead.
Tonight's the night to get out. Louis Tomlinson's at Scotiabank Arena at 7 PM, there's live music across the city—Chris Lake at the RBC Amphitheatre at 6, Goldfinger at History at 7, and indie acts at Sneaky Dee's at 6:30. The Jays are home too, taking on the White Sox at Rogers Centre at 7:07 PM if that's your speed. With the smoke and the heat, honestly, indoor's the move—catch some music or head to the ballpark. Either way, you're locked in for a solid Friday.
Have a good one. See you out there.
