Saturday heat, smoke in the air, and a Jays game calling your name
It's warm and hazy out there—plan your day around the air quality and catch some live music or baseball tonight.
Morning. It's 22°C but feels more like 28° with the humidity, and we've got an air quality warning in effect—AQHI sitting at 10.0, which means the smoke from fires out west is hanging over the 6ix. If you're heading outside for the day, take it easy with strenuous stuff, keep the kids' outdoor time in check, and maybe save the long run for when the air clears. We've got solid daylight until 8:55 PM, so you've got plenty of time to move around if you're careful about it.
On the road front, there's a collision on the 400 southbound at Finch that's got three right lanes closed—if you're heading that way, give yourself extra time or find a different route. Construction continues on Gladfern, Claymore, and Stockbridge in the west end, so map it out if you're in that pocket.
Couple things worth knowing: A Blue Jays fan who came to T.O. speaking no English just got his dream day at Rogers Centre—the kind of story that reminds you why this city's got heart. Meanwhile, the Bickford Centre community hub plan is stuck in limbo because nobody can figure out who actually owns the place—city or TDSB—so that's still grinding along.
If you're hungry, there's some real momentum in the food scene right now. XO Bisous and Barque Smokehouse just teamed up on St. Clair, which is a wild pairing but sounds like it's working. Banh Mi Nana's brought that viral sandwich concept up here near Yonge and Finch if you're after something quick. And Bottega Volo's opening a second spot in Junction Triangle this fall if you want to remember that.
The main event tonight is the Jays hosting the White Sox at Rogers Centre at 3:07 PM—perfect afternoon baseball weather if you can tolerate the haze. If you're more in the mood for live music, Josh Johnson's at Massey Hall at 5:00 PM, or catch Jeremy Olander (Open to Close) at Sunnyside Pavilion at 6:00 PM if you want something that'll carry into the night. There's also theatre going if you're into that—Medusa at the Young Centre at 1:30 PM, or The Outsiders at the Princess of Wales at 2:00 PM. Casa Loma's got the Dressing the Abbey exhibit running all day and evening if you want something a bit different.
Stay hydrated out there, watch the air quality, and enjoy the daylight while it lasts.
