Friday kicks off cool and sunny — live music all night.
13°C and mainly sunny means jacket weather, but the UV's high. Catch live rock across town tonight.
It's a proper Friday morning in T.O., and it's noticeably cooler than it's been — you'll want a layer. Thirteen degrees, mainly sunny skies, and that UV index is sitting at 8, which is high, so sunscreen's worth it if you're out midday. You've got just under 15 hours of daylight, with sunset at 8:49 PM, which means plenty of time to stretch your evening out.
A few travel heads-ups before you head out: There's police activity around Passmore Ave and Kennedy Rd affecting the 43 Kennedy bus — if you're heading that way, they've got northbound detours set up via McNicoll, Passmore and Silver Star. Keep an eye on the 427 southbound at Rutherford (Vaughan) and the 404 southbound at Finch if you're hitting the highways — both have disabled vehicles causing lane closures.
On the local side, there's some real neighbourhood stuff brewing. The city's got a Scarborough auto shop owner in its sights over more than a thousand scrap tires with no clear path to clearing them. Meanwhile, a Trent University biologist is making noise about coyote removal in T.O. — arguing hazing isn't cutting it anymore. And if you've been wondering what's coming to Queen and Augusta, the park design just dropped, so construction's moving closer to real.
For food, if you're looking to eat today, there's some solid new spots and traditions worth hitting. Chef Porpy's brought authentic Northern Thai to the city at Larb Muang, which is worth a scoop if that's your thing. Primrose Bagel Company is teaming up with Kwinter's for Friday night hot dog parties — proper Friday energy. The Bull BBQ Pit opened a third spot in Liberty Village if you're craving smoke and meat, and Tim Hortons is rolling out handcrafted matcha lattes across Canada if that's more your speed.
Tonight's where it gets fun. Live music is firing up across the city at 6:30 — "Ghost Peppers" is bringing a Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute with guests at Supermarket, Defferral's at Sneaky Dee's with Hialeah and midlife., and if you want something different, AfterMath's at Hard Luck Bar. Pond's playing The Concert Hall at 7 if you want to catch them. With the sun staying out until almost 9, you can actually see the city light up as the evening gets going. There's also a parapan am aquatics event at CIBC Pan Am if sports are your Friday opener.
Get out there. It's Friday.
