Humid Saturday in the 6ix — get outside while it's warm
Hit 29 degrees, the Jays play at 3, and there's Cirque if you're feeling it.
Morning. It's a warm one — 23 degrees but feels more like 29 with the humidity, so dress light and grab sunscreen. UV's running high at 8.0, which means you'll burn faster than you think. You've got solid daylight until 8:41 PM, so there's time to move around.
Couples heads-ups on getting around: Union's bus terminal entrance is closed today, so if you're catching a coach, plan an extra few minutes. The Don Valley Parkway's got some lane closures south of Don Mills and north of Eglinton — nothing that'll crater your day, but worth knowing if you're heading that way. There's also a disabled vehicle holding up the 427 northbound at Eglinton, right lane and shoulder blocked.
Couple things worth knowing about the city this week: Island ferries are running free all August for kids, youth and seniors after that Billy Bishop expansion fell through — good time to take family across to the Islands if you haven't in a bit. And if you've been meaning to catch Cirque du Soleil's Luzia, it's still under the big top on the waterfront — shows run all day, starting at 11 AM.
If you're thinking food, Roots has six iconic Canadian destinations set up at The Well through tonight — last day to scoop that, so don't sleep. Grape Witches is throwing a tomato party with Robinson Bread's four-foot-long heirloom sandwich if you want to go full summer. And heads-up: The Night Baker's closing its original College Street spot after seven years, so if that's your regular, get in while you can.
The Jays are home today — Blue Jays vs. St. Louis Cardinals at Rogers Centre, first pitch 3:07 PM. Could be a solid afternoon if you're into it.
Tonally, today's got big Saturday energy. If you want something wild, Veld's running the electronic circuit all weekend. Or go full spectacle with Luzia. Sneaky Dee's has live music tonight (Laurentian Divide and crew starting at 6:30). Casa Loma's doing exhibit tours all day if you want something lower-key and cooler inside. The humidity'll keep things feeling sticky, so indoor options aren't bad — or just get in the water somewhere and call it a day.
Enjoy the warmth while it's here. Talk tomorrow.
