Guns N' Roses tonight, clear skies, and the 427 is a mess
Wednesday's a stadium night in T.O. — bring sunscreen for the day, but you'll want the evening cool.
It's 17°C this morning, mainly clear, and that UV's sitting at 8.0, which is high — so if you're out and about, sunscreen's not optional. You've got a full fourteen-and-a-bit hours of daylight, and the sun doesn't set until 8:36 PM, so plan accordingly.
Commute-wise, the 427 Northbound is tied up in knots today. There's a vehicle fire currently blocking two right lanes and the right shoulder near the 409, plus highway maintenance has shut down all lanes on the collector ramps at both Eglinton and Evans — so if you're heading north on the 427, give yourself extra time or find another route. On the ground, Shuter Street's got a lane closure west of Victoria, and there's some work on Trethewey Drive south of Yore Road if that's your neighbourhood.
There's a couple of stories worth knowing this morning. A man was pulled to safety from the Scarborough Bluffs yesterday after being stuck on the cliff face for 24 hours — rescue crews had their hands full with that one. And there was a fatal fire in a Scarborough highrise on the 16th floor Tuesday morning. On a lighter note, Church Street's pedestrianization survey is still open until September 7, though the pilot project's cost has ballooned to half a million dollars, which has some folks talking.
If you're thinking lunch, heads up: there's a Costco recall on Alfa Croissants over potential mould contamination, and Hershey Kisses are nationwide recalled due to undeclared almonds, so check what's in your pantry. On the brighter side, Vers just opened as a queer-owned café and community hub over in Carleton Village if you're looking for a new spot. And if you're a chicken fingers person, Honestly Good has expanded to six GTA locations and is eyeing the States next.
Tonight's the night — Guns N' Roses is headlining Rogers Stadium with Public Enemy at 6:25 PM, so the city's gonna have some energy. If stadium shows aren't your thing, there's The Word Alive at Lee's Palace (6 PM, 19+) or Alex Serra & Toti Dub at The Mod Club (6 PM) if you want something smaller and closer. The National Bank Open women's tennis is live at Sobeys Stadium from 12:30 PM if you're catching the day matches, and the Brampton Honey Badgers are in the Eastern Conference semi-finals at the CAA Centre at 8 PM.
Clear skies, long daylight, and a full evening ahead. Get out there.
