Thursday cools down — commute watch and live music takes over
Cooler morning, highway closures to dodge, and Ed Sheeran's in town tonight.
Morning's a sharp 15°C, so layer up if you're heading out early — it's a real dip from what we've had. Sun's going down at 8:14 tonight, so you've got a solid 13-and-a-half hours of daylight to work with. UV's sitting at 7.0, which is high, so if you're spending the day outside, don't sleep on the sunscreen.
Commute heads-up: the 401 westbound in Scarborough's closed hard because of a serious crash — that's going to back things up real quick, so if you're heading west from Scarb, add time or find another route. Gardiner's got closures east of Lower Jarvis, and there's work on the Don Valley ramp before Lawrence. Church Street's also got something on, and there's a closure around Chaplin Crescent southeast of Roselawn. Nothing catastrophic if you're downtown-core, but know your exit before you need it.
On the local front, Toronto's tech workforce just hit 358,000 — third-largest hub in North America. That's a real swing. And there's a tough conversation happening right now: an accessibility advocate just gave the city a 6 out of 10, and it's worth reading why if you care about how we're doing on that front.
If you're hunting lunch or dinner, the CNE's pushed food chaos to the next level — butter chicken taquitos, Kraft Dinner smoothies, pickle cheesecake. If that sounds like a good time, roll with it. Otherwise, there's a solid guide floating around on six hot dog spots across T.O. worth a detour if you're in the mood. Just a heads-up: Whole Foods has recalled some salsas and guac linked to a salmonella thing down in the States, so check what's in your fridge if you grabbed any recently.
Tonight's music-heavy. Ed Sheeran's at Rogers Centre starting at 5:30, and if that's not your speed, there's rock and alternative all over — Jutes with In Color at the Danforth, Simple Plan at the RBC Amphitheatre at 6, or letlive and Oxymorrons at the Mod if you want something harder. Pick your mood and grab a ticket if something lands. Weather's clear enough for it.
Keep your head on a swivel on the roads today, bundle up a touch, and catch some live music if the evening opens up for it.
Stay sharp.
