Friday night's calling — live music, baseball, and clear skies

Morning. It's Friday and the weekend's right there. We're looking at 14°C and clear skies all day — crisp but totally fine for getting around. UV's running high at 6.0, so if you're outside longer than a quick walk, sunscreen's not a bad call. Sun doesn't drop until 8 PM, so you've got a long evening to work with.

Highway-wise, there's a transport truck fire that's shut down the 401 EB collectors at Winston Churchill, so if you're heading that way this morning, reroute and give yourself extra time. There's also a disabled vehicle slowing the 400 northbound at Steeles in Vaughan, and a couple of lane closures on the 401 — one westbound at Kennedy in Scarborough, another eastbound at Islington. Nothing catastrophic, but worth knowing if you're commuting out or across the city.

On the local front, the mayoral race is heating up over tariffs as the trade war gets messier — worth paying attention to as it unfolds. Real estate's bracing for a fall inventory crunch too, so if you've been thinking about moving, the market's tightening. One heads-up: Danforth GO station's shutting down all three elevators for three months starting September 8, so if that's your stop, plan ahead. And if you're in Weston, tenants are rallying against yet another above-guidelines rent hike — third time running.

For eating, there's some good stuff coming. Casa Rubia — Galician steaks and vermouth — lands on College and Palmerston this fall. Willy Wacky Sweets just opened a permanent spot on Harbord with rare global candy if you're in the mood for something weird and good.
