Clear skies and a long weekend ahead — get out while it's good.
Sixteen degrees, mostly clear, and the sun's not dropping till 7:45 PM. Perfect for getting outside.
Morning. It's a Sunday with real daylight to work with — 13 hours of it — so if you've been meaning to move, now's the time. Sixteen degrees is that sweet spot where you don't need a parka but you're not fooling yourself either; layer it. The UV's running high at 7.0, so if you're heading out for more than an hour, throw on sunscreen. Sunset's at 7:45 PM, which means you've got breathing room for an evening thing without it getting dark on you.
If you're heading out of the city or using the 401, heads up: there are a few collisions backed up on the Eastbound side this morning — one at McCOwan, another at Markham, and one at the Neilson transfer — so if that's your route, give yourself extra time or take a detour. The Gardiner Expressway is also down to one lane heading east past Lower Jarvis, so downtown-bound folks might want to know that too.
Worth knowing: there's been a serious incident at Long Branch GO station in Etobicoke that police are investigating, and there were a few pedestrian collisions around the city this week. Stay sharp out there.
If brunch is in the cards, there's a piece out this morning on six T.O. diners worth a proper detour — farm-fresh spots, 24-hour joints, retro places holding it down since the '50s. AYLA on Dundas West is also doing a thing with family recipes, and if you've heard the buzz about that new spot people are calling Canada's answer to Erewhon, this is a good Sunday to check it out. For something different, a few restaurants have film-inspired cocktails and menus rolling out for TIFF season — might be worth a look if you're feeling it.
For evening plans: if you want to move, there's a live soccer match at BMO Field at 2:00 PM — Calgary Wild against AFC Toronto. If you're more into comedy, Aakash Gupta's doing a show called Daily Ka Kaam Hai at the Meridian Arts Centre (Lyric Theatre) at 7:00 PM. Music-wise, Nate Sib is at The Mod Club at 7:00 PM, and if you're still going after midnight, Electric Island's season closer is wrapping with an official afterparty at CODA at 10:00 PM — that's a 4 AM license situation, so come ready. There's also Cabana Sunday happening at 2:00 PM if you want daytime pool vibes, or Casa Loma's open for general admission from 9:30 AM on.
Stay safe out there, and enjoy the clear one.
