Wednesday's warm and live—watch the TTC, catch the Reds tonight
21°C, mostly clear, and the 6ix is humming. Heads up on a few transit hiccups before you move.
Morning's sitting at 21, feels like 26 with mostly cloudy skies—that's genuinely pleasant for early September. You'll want layers later when the sun dips at 7:39, but right now it's the kind of day you notice. UV's moderate at 3.0, so you're fine without the heavy sunscreen play.
Commute-wise, there are a few things worth knowing. A watermain break's flooded the Coxwell–Gerrard area this morning, so the TTC's taking a hit around there—give yourself a few extra minutes if that's your route. On the 401, there's the usual mess: a disabled vehicle blocking westbound express lanes at the 404, highway work on the westbound on-ramp at Morningside (all lanes closed), and emergency roadwork around the 404/DVP collector-to-express transfer eastbound. If you're heading out on the 401, budget extra time and maybe pick a slower street if you're not too far out.
Line 2 subway's also down between Ossington and St. George after an injury on the tracks this morning—that one's still developing, so check the TTC app before you head that way.
On the real news side: a man's been arrested in connection with a stabbing in Malvern; victim's okay with non-life-threatening injuries. Brad Bradford's making noise about prioritizing an Scarborough East LRT if he wins the mayoral race, which'll matter to people out in Scarb. And if you've been wondering about the winter ahead, early signals are pointing to a warmer, drier season than usual—potential super El Niño brewing, which is worth keeping in your back pocket for planning.
If you're thinking lunch or dinner, there's some solid stuff moving around the city right now. The underground food scene on Facebook Marketplace has gotten genuinely interesting—locals posting homemade meals and building something real. If you want to venture out, Schmaltz at Night's trading bagels for things like lobster rolls and queso wieners (sounds unhinged, probably delicious). Broadview Hotel's food director's also flagged three Riverside spots worth the detour if you're down that way.
Tonight's got energy. TFC's playing Nashville SC at BMO Field at 7:30—that's the main event if you're a football person. On the live music side, Breaking Benjamin's at RBC Amphitheatre at 6, Colin Stetson and Brighde Chaimbeul are at the Opera House at 7, and Melanie C's at the Phoenix at the same time. There's also a TIFF screening at Lightbox if you want something quieter. Plenty of ways to spend the evening.
Stay sorted out there. See you tonight.
