Monday morning: cool start, TIFF nights, and watch the Gardiner.
Cooler than it's been—grab a layer, watch for traffic snarls, and plan your evening around the fest.
Morning's crisp at 13°C—feels like actual fall now, so throw on a sweater before you head out. Sun's clear though, and you've got good daylight until 7:30 PM, so don't let the chill fool you into staying inside all day. Just keep the UV in mind; it's sitting at 6 (high), so if you're outside for lunch or a walk, sunscreen still matters.
Commute check: couple of things to know. The Gardiner Westbound before Islington is giving trouble this morning, and if you're heading north on the DVP before Don Mills, same story—leave a bit of extra time. The 427 Southbound has a collision backed up around Dundas with the right lanes closed, and there's a disabled vehicle blocking the 404 northbound on-ramp at Finch. Standard Monday mess, but worth knowing before you hit it.
On the neighbourhood front, there's been a serious collision in Scarborough—a motorcyclist killed at Eglinton and McCowan—so if you're heading that way, take it easy and keep your head on a swivel. Over in Kensington, workers at Kensington Health are out picketing today over contract talks around pay, vacation, and disability benefits; if you're heading through that area, you'll want to know what's happening. And if you're into bikes, there's a ride happening today with folks pushing back on Ford's plan to pull out the bike lanes—worth a look if that ting matters to you.
Lunch and dinner: sounds like it's a good week to eat out. Canis is reopening in Little Italy if you've been waiting on that—one of the city's most celebrated spots finally back. If you're chasing something weirder and more fun, there's a whole hidden food scene brewing on Facebook Marketplace where creators are posting homemade meals; it's the kind of scoop that spreads by word of mouth. And if you want something different tonight, Anthony Rose's Schmaltz at Night just flipped the bagel script and is doing lobster rolls and queso wieners instead—worth trying if you're in that mood.
Tonight's got serious energy. TIFF is in full swing, so if you want to catch a film, there are screenings starting at 5:15 PM and later (Inherit at the Lightbox, or Gentle Monster at the Royal Alex at 5 PM). After that, grab dinner somewhere and call it a solid Monday. The Jays are also home—they're playing Detroit at Rogers Centre at 7:07 PM if you'd rather catch the game.
Keep your head up out there. See you around the 6ix.
