Saturday's cooler—TIFF's hot. Here's your day.

Welcome to a proper fall Saturday. The temp's down to 12 from where it's been—grab a layer before you head out. You've got a solid 12 hours of daylight before sunset hits at 7:21, so plan accordingly. UV's running high at 6.0, so sunscreen if you're going to be out a while, even with the clouds rolling in.

If you're driving anywhere, keep an eye on the 400 southbound below Steeles (right lane closed due to a disabled vehicle) and the 401—there's a couple of issues on the Expressway: westbound near the 404, and eastbound at Leslie. Nothing massive, but worth knowing before you merge.

Bigger picture: there's been some rough news this week. A 74-year-old motorcyclist died on the 407 near the 400 in Vaughan after losing control, and there's still a search underway for a 78-year-old kayaker on the Humber River—eight days now. It's the kind of thing that sits with you.

On the flip side, there's some good stuff happening. A Grade 12 student just won an inaugural robotics award for building an app that helps unhoused Torontonians, which is the kind of ting that actually moves the needle. And if you're hungry, there's real novelty in the kitchen right now—Chef Nick Liu's opened Woodlyns, a Chinese-Jewish fusion spot up at Bathurst and Eglinton that's worth the scoop. Tous Les Jours also just landed their first Canadian location at the North York H Mart this week, if you're looking for something easy and good.

TIFF is the main event today. If you haven't caught a film yet, there's plenty of time—screenings are running all day and into the evening, with options at Roy Thomson Hall (4:15 PM), Scotiabank Theatre (multiple slots starting at 5:00 PM), and the Royal Alexandra (5:30 PM). Pick a title, commit to it, grab brunch beforehand, then walk it off somewhere decent. The Beaches are solid before the clouds really settle in.

If you want sports instead, the Argos are home at BMO Field at 3:00 PM against the Edmonton Elks—CFL football, good Saturday vibes.

Stay warm out there. Text me if you find something good.
