Sunday before the feast: shows, eats, and a cool one out there

Morning. It's 11°C and mostly cloudy out there—jacket weather, no coat yet. You've got good daylight until 6:41 PM, so if you're planning anything outside today, you've got the window. UV's low, so no sun panic.

If you're driving anywhere near Dupont and Bathurst, know that Dupont's closed eastbound and westbound from Bathurst to Howland while work's happening. Same stretch at Bathurst itself. The DVP's also shut northbound beyond Dundas East. Nothing crazy, but worth routing around if you're heading that way. The 960 Steeles Express is down too—no service between Kipling and Markbrook Lane while they deal with a security incident, so catch a different bus if that's your line.

Couple things on the neighbourhood radar: Holly Roy's turned her grief into something real—she's put together a memorial for her son JahVai, who was killed. Worth knowing about. Meanwhile, Brad Bradford held a crime safety townhall over in Lawrence Park yesterday; folks are shaken by a string of break-ins in the area. And if you're using Airbnb anywhere, keep your eyes open—turns out some listings in T.O. and Montreal are using AI-generated images that don't match the actual places. Check the reviews.

On the food front, there's free Thanksgiving eats happening across the city this weekend—turkeys, pies, vegan roasts—so if you're short on supplies heading into tomorrow, scoop that up. If you're thinking dinner out instead, grab a burger: there's a solid write-up of six standouts across the city, from tavern-style to smashed. Tangssant Viennoiserie just won best croissant in T.O., if you want to know where to pick one up. And if you need a fall coffee or seasonal drink to warm up, the local spots have some good ones brewing.

Tonight's yours to play with. Hell's Kitchen and The Karate Kid both have matinees at 2 PM if you want to catch a show this afternoon. Casa Loma's doing general admission all day and has the Halloween vibe going if you're into that—Legends of Horror family hours start at 5:30 PM. For live music, Despised Icon and a few others are at the Phoenix Concert Theatre at 5:30 PM if you're in a heavier mood. The energy's all over the map tonight.

Enjoy the Sunday before the madness. Stay warm out there.
