Frost on the windshield, warm sun later, and a Monday worth getting out for

Scrape the car before you leave, then plan on a warmer afternoon than the last few days have offered.

Frost on the windshield, warm sun later, and a Monday worth getting out for

Morning, T.O. Fair warning before you head out: there's a yellow frost advisory covering Toronto and Peel, Halton tonight into Tuesday morning, so if you're parked outside, budget a few extra minutes for the scraper and maybe a jacket that's a little heavier than you'd like. The good news is the day itself turns around nicely. It's 14°C and mostly cloudy right now, noticeably warmer than the days leading up to this one, and UV sits at a modest 3, so sunglasses are optional rather than essential. Daylight runs long today, about 10 hours and 32 minutes, and the sun won't set until 6:17 PM, which means you've got real evening light if you want to stay out after work.

For getting around, the main thing to know is the stretch of Sammon Avenue east of Pape, where several segments are closed or disrupted today. If your route runs through that part of Scarborough, give yourself extra time or sneak around it on a parallel street. Nothing else in the disruption list is worth rearranging your morning over, so keep the commute simple.

A couple of local stories are worth carrying into the day. Toronto's Sunday Market is staying put at Parkdale Hall through 2027 while the Phoenix Concert Theatre plans move forward, which is good news for anyone who's built a weekend routine around it. Out in Brampton, the Diwali Mela comes back on Nov. 8 with a free Shinda concert and a fireworks finale, so pencil that into the calendar now. It's also worth knowing that police are looking for three teens after a machete attack on a 15-year-old at a Whitby theatre, so keep an eye out for updates if you've got family out that way.

If you're hungry for something worth the trip, Chapman's pecan butter tart ice cream has just won an international best ice cream award, and it's a fine excuse to go find a scoop. Black+Blue Toronto has also landed on Tripadvisor's best fine dining list for Canada, so if you've been saving a reservation for something special, this might be the week. Crosstown Craft BBQ is opening its first permanent spot on Comstock Road next month, which is a good one to watch if you're in the area.

Tonight's a solid Monday night out. Olivia Rodrigo is at Scotiabank, Rocky Horror is playing the Roy Thomson, and Casa Loma is running its Legends of Horror all night, which is a great fit for the spooky season mood. Periphery is at History Toronto, Quadeca is at the Danforth Music Hall, and Lexi Jayde is at the Mod Club if you want a show closer to home. Halifax Tides FC face AFC Toronto at BMO Field at 7:00 PM, so if you're a soccer person, that's a good one to catch under the lights. Since it's going to be cold tonight, favour the indoor options unless you're dressed for it.

Stay warm this morning, scrape that windshield properly, and enjoy the sunshine when it shows up.
