Thursday in T.O.: Mist, a Long Sunset, and a Packed Night Out
Grab a layer for the mist, mind the Pape and Danforth detours, and plan your night around live music at seven.
Morning, neighbours. It's a grey, damp start at 7°C with mist hanging over the city, so reach for a layer you don't mind getting a little misty. The UV is mild at 3.0, which means sunscreen can wait, but the good news is you get a long run of daylight today: the sun doesn't set until 6:13 PM, so there's plenty of time after work to get out and enjoy the city before dark.
If you're driving or taking transit through the east end, give yourself some extra minutes. Pape Avenue is closed from Danforth Avenue to Gertrude Place, and Gertrude itself is shut from Pape out to 25 metres west of Muriel Avenue, so expect detours if you usually cut through there. Danforth is also restricted 34 metres east of the lane east of Pape, so take it slow near that stretch. Over on the Don Valley Parkway, there's a lane restriction about 500 metres south of Eglinton Avenue East, which could slow the northbound or southbound crawl a bit.
On the news side, the province is opening the Niagara casino market to new operators, with a call for more than $3 billion in investment. Ontario is also set to table its 2026 economic outlook and fiscal review today, though the figures aren't public yet, so keep an eye out. Closer to home, police are looking for a man after an alleged sexual assault of a jogger near Black Creek and Trethewey, so if you run those trails, stay aware and travel with someone if you can. And if you were a former CIBC or Renaissance fund holder, you've got until November 18 to claim your share of $11 million.
For lunch, Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse is hosting a three-night collaboration dinner with Hawksmoor, which is a treat if you've been wanting a proper steak night. Black+Blue has just landed on Tripadvisor's list of the best fine dining restaurants in Canada, so it's a good week to book. And if you're after something sweet, Chapman's pecan butter tart ice cream just won an international best ice cream award, which feels like a reason to go treat yourself.
Tonight the live music scene is running hot at 7 PM. You can catch kwn at History Toronto, RaiNao at The Mod Club, Lennon Stella at Paradise Theatre, or The Sheepdogs at Phoenix Concert Theatre, so there's a little something for every taste. If you're more of a theatre person, The Karate Kid - The Musical is on at Princess of Wales Theatre at 1:30 this afternoon, and there's Visiting Mr. Green at Meridian Arts Centre's Studio Theatre at the same time. Casa Loma has general admission starting at 9:30 this morning if you want to get some history in before work. Since it's a Thursday, most of tonight's plans are indoors, so the mist won't matter once you're inside a venue.
Have a good one, and get home safe.
