Mild Tuesday in the 6ix — grab a light layer and go

Morning, T.O. It's a mild one for early November, sitting at 14°C with a bit of mist hanging around, so you can leave the parka at the door and bring a light layer instead. UV is low at 2.0, which means no sunscreen fuss today. Plan your evening around the sun, though, because it sets at 5:06 PM, so anything you're walking home from after work is going to happen in the dark.

If you're heading in or out of the city by rail, pay attention this weekend. Both the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO lines are shut all weekend for construction, and the TTC has a key stretch of subway closed for the same stretch, so line up your alternatives now instead of finding out Saturday morning. Downtown, there are a few lane closures worth knowing about: Piper Street has a section closed, and Front Street West has work happening both near Blue Jays Way and between Simcoe and John. Give yourself some extra minutes on the core roads and you'll be fine.

A couple of stories from around town are worth your attention. Lily Rosenberg is using wrestling to push back on Down syndrome stereotypes, which is the kind of thing that makes you pause and rethink what you assumed. Meanwhile, hundreds of food delivery drivers rallied downtown over pay and safety, so if you've got an app order coming, be patient with the people bringing it to your door. And for anyone who's been doing Sunday meals in the city for a long time, Seva Kitchen Canada has been feeding folks at Allan Gardens for more than 17 years now, which is a pretty solid run.

For eats, there's some good news on the horizon. Vikram Vij's Sahni is coming to the Union Hotel in the Financial District, and Queen West's The Dirty Laundry is turning into a holiday pop-up this November. Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse is also hosting a three-night collaboration dinner with Hawksmoor if you're in the mood to splurge.

Tonight, the lineup is packed. Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers play The Garrison at 7:00, New Constellations are at The Opera House, and Sweeping Promises are at Monarch Tavern, also at 7:00. If you want something a bit earlier, Casa Loma has general admission starting at 9:30 AM. Since it's 14 and misty, it's an indoor night for most plans, but the Dirt Tavern-to-Garrison walk is a short one if you're bouncing between shows.

If you're a sports person, the 2026 U17 World Challenge has Finland against the USA at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex at 3:30 PM, so that's a good one to catch if you're out in the 905 this afternoon. Enjoy the day, stay dry, and we'll catch you tomorrow.
