Mild Thursday in the 6ix: Line 2 is out at Bloor-Yonge, so plan ahead
Sixteen degrees and mostly cloudy, a Line 2 detour to plan around, and plenty of live music tonight.
Morning, T.O. It's a mild one for early November. We're sitting at 16°C under mostly cloudy skies, which is warmer than the last few days, so you can probably leave the big parka at home and grab a light jacket instead. UV is only 3, so sunscreen isn't a must today. Sunset comes at 5:03 PM, which gives you about ten hours of daylight, so if you're planning anything outdoors after work, you've got a good window before dusk sets in.
On the way in, the big one is Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: trains are not stopping at Bloor-Yonge station because of a TFS investigation. If you normally transfer there, give yourself some extra time or find another route. Line 1 Yonge-University is back to regular service between College and St Clair, so that stretch is clear again. If you're out west, Line 6 Finch West has delays between Finch West and Humber College while Metrolinx's maintainers work on a mechanical issue at Emery station, with shuttle buses running between those two stops. Over east, the 70 O'Connor is detoured via Coxwell Ave and Taylor Dr because of police activity, so if that's your bus, plan on a longer ride.
A few local stories are worth knowing today. Ontario Liberal leadership hopefuls are split on taxes as members begin voting on November 9, so expect that debate to keep going. Downtown, there's a bronze statue of WWI flying ace William Barker going up on Yonge Street, and the city has also unveiled it. Meanwhile, delivery drivers are pushing app companies for fair pay and safer conditions, which is a conversation a lot of us have witnessed from the sidewalk.
For lunch or dinner, Sahni, the Vikram Vij restaurant, is coming to the Union Hotel in the Financial District, so keep an eye out for that one. And if you're a fan of the weird and wonderful, Queen West's The Dirty Laundry is turning into a holiday pop-up this November. On the sweeter side, McDonald's has rolled out frosted cranberry and cookie butter drinks across Canada, if you're in the mood for something quick.
Tonight's music scene is all over the map. Katy Nichole is playing The Opera House at 6:00 PM, with a 'Honest Conversations Tour' show featuring Emerson Day and Cade Thompson. If you'd rather go a bit rowdier, Blake Whiten plays the Horseshoe Tavern at 7:00 PM, and Weston Estate is at The Mod Club at 7:00 PM. If you'd rather be fancy, the National Ballet of Canada is at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts at 2:00 PM, and Casa Loma's general admission opens at 9:30 AM if you want to wander through a castle. Most of tonight's shows are indoors, so the weather won't be an issue.
Have a good one, and get home safe.
