Archie's has opened at 106 Broadview Avenue in Riverside, replacing the Civic bistro with a warmer, more casual pub vibe. Named after Archibald Dingman, the entrepreneur who built the landmark Broadview Hotel in 1891, the restaurant aims to recapture the building's past as a community gathering place.
Executive chef Artem Shcherbina, originally from Russia with a Jewish mother, draws on his mountainous homeland's culinary traditions — the Caucasus region near Armenia, Georgia, Turkey, and the Black Sea. He's created a house-made spice blend that anchors the menu's bolder flavours.
The food roster centres on burgers — two smash-style and five traditional versions — flanked by comfort classics like steak frites, fish and chips, and chicken supreme. Shareable finger foods include corn ribs, chicken wings, reuben croquettes, and nacho fries, with a small selection of salads. Food-and-beverage director Jason Chapman and Shcherbina visited nearby beloved spots like Eastside Social, the Comrade, and Maple Leaf Tavern to refine Archie's warm, inviting aesthetic.
