After nearly a decade of serving Toronto with award-winning wood-fired pizzas, Defina Wood Fired is putting out the flames for good.
The Junction Triangle restaurant opened in 2018, seven years after owners launched Pizzeria Defina in Roncesvalles. Over the years, the Junction location built a loyal following for its Roma and Napoletana-style crusts and was one of the few places in the city offering gluten-free crust long before it became common.
The spacious dining room and corner patio made it a popular spot for celebrations and larger gatherings. Regulars have taken to the restaurant's Instagram to express their sadness over the closure, sharing memories of milestones and family dinners.
"Our favourite and go-to place for celebrations and family dinners," one user wrote. "Celebrated so many milestones with you guys on Dupont. You'll be missed!"
In a social media post Thursday, the restaurant announced it will close as its lease ends, writing: "Thank you to everyone who dined with us, celebrated with us, and supported us over the years. We are truly grateful for the memories and friendships we have made."
Defina Wood Fired's last day of service at 1485 Dupont St. is Sunday, June 21.
The good news for pizza lovers: the original Pizzeria Defina location remains open at 321 Roncesvalles Ave., continuing the family's wood-fired tradition in the neighbourhood.
