After a decade serving Toronto's fried chicken lovers, PG Clucks is closing both of its locations. Owners Pawel and Steph Grezlikowski announced Thursday, July 9, that the College Street location is now immediately closed, with the Queen West location shutting down at the end of the month.
"After 10 years of slinging Toronto's favourite chicken sandwiches, the time has come to turn off the fryers," the owners wrote on Instagram. They were candid about the reasoning: "The reality is that we can't continue to offer our huge sandwiches at current prices, and we're not interested in selling takeout chicken sandwiches for $15+."
The closure reflects broader challenges facing the restaurant sector. Operational costs continue to rise, and customer willingness to accept inflation can only stretch so far, no matter how much they want to support their favourite spots. The closures follow other beloved Toronto fried chicken restaurants like Daddy's Chicken and Joe Bird.
From the ashes of PG Clucks, however, comes a new concept from Pawel and Steph called Loomi Pita — a self-proclaimed "world's smallest pita bakery" featuring baked-to-order organic, long-fermented pitas served alongside dips, housemade pickles, falafel and schnitzel. The opening date is still to come. Customers have until July 25 to pick up one last PG Clucks sandwich at 1112 Queen Street West.
