The Salon du Chocolat runs Thursday, Nov. 19, through Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Toronto Congress Centre in Exhibition Place. At the media preview, organisers handed out chocolates shaped like the CN Tower.
The main draw is the runway. Models walk in outfits made entirely of chocolate, a signature of the festival that began in Paris. Tastings cover chocolate from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Canada, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Vietnam and Jamaica, alongside workshops and chef demonstrations.
The schedule is built day by day. Thursday's opening night includes networking, jazz, a runway and a cocktail toast. Friday's grand opening features main-stage demonstrations, a workshop and another fashion show. Saturday brings an exhibition, a junior salon, an interactive adult workshop, a chocomix station and a cocktails DJ. Sunday's finale has the Mix & Moka session, a fashion show and a closing ceremony with awards.
Jean-François Kacou, president of Salon du Chocolat Toronto and Montreal, said the Montreal and Toronto events have practically sold out and that the Toronto edition is expected to be the biggest the festival has held in Canada. He called Toronto the "most dynamic economic hub of Canada" and told attendees to "expect everything around chocolate and beyond the boundaries of what we know of this magnificent edible food."
