Sam James Coffee Bar launches Coca-Cold Brew dirty soda
The hipster coffee brand's new summer drink blends espresso, Coke, and vanilla syrup.
Sam James Coffee Bar is joining the dirty soda trend with its new Coca-Cold Brew, a carbonated hybrid that combines espresso with Coke and vanilla syrup. According to the brand's recent Instagram post, the drink "tastes like a vanilla affogato float crashed a park hang." The dirty soda craze kicked off a couple of years ago after exposure on the hit series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives — Mormons don't drink alcohol or coffee, but caffeinated soda is fair game, so pop mixed with flavoured syrups became a popular alternative. Now various coffee companies are marketing java-infused versions to the broader market. This month alone, both McDonald's Canada and Tim Hortons launched their own dirty soda collections, hoping to appeal to Gen Z consumers who drink with their eyes as much as their tastebuds. Coffee may be Canada's most popular beverage, but it doesn't photograph as well on TikTok, where fizzy concoctions thrive as a subculture unto themselves. Sam James has already gotten positive feedback on the new drink, which is currently made with regular cola — though the always-vocal Diet Coke mafia has been demanding their version.
