A new independent bookstore-bar opens at Mirvish Village next week, offering something between a book club and social reading night.

Book Bar, located at 600 Markham St., describes itself as a "layered third place where great stories and great drinks live side by side." The concept has gained traction in major North American cities—Toronto's version arrives as part of the development's southern block on Bloor West between Bathurst and Markham.

During the day, the space serves coffee beverages and light bites while patrons browse stacks, read, write, or work. As evening approaches, it transitions to full bar service. Staff are equipped with book recommendations and ready to discuss what customers are reading.

The bar will host community and cultural events "built around intention, warmth and the belief that connection is created through shared experiences." A packed social calendar already includes talk series and singles nights.

Book Bar's grand opening runs Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28. It's just a few doors down from Badiali, the new coffee shop that opened earlier this spring at Mirvish Village.
