Toronto's Caribbean Carnival Junior Parade will take place on Sunday, July 19, instead of Saturday after organizers cited forecasted rain and high winds across the region.
Meteorology forecasts indicated a risk of severe storms Saturday afternoon and evening, with potential torrential downpours and wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h in some areas. Wildfire smoke from northern Ontario is expected to linger through the weekend before clearing Sunday afternoon as a cold front moves through.
"The decision has been made with the safety and comfort of the thousands of young participants, their families, volunteers, spectators and event staff as the highest priority," organizers said. All event programming will proceed as scheduled on the new date, with the parade route unchanged and only minor adjustments to some activities.
The Junior Carnival Parade showcases young masqueraders in vibrant handcrafted costumes performing to Soca, Calypso, and Steelpan music, celebrating the traditions of Caribbean Carnival.
