During his Toronto concert at Rogers Stadium on Tuesday, June 16, Post Malone paused between songs to remember Oliver Tree, the 32-year-old singer and producer who died in a helicopter crash in Brazil on June 15.

Post Malone addressed the crowd while holding a beer, visibly holding back tears. "This concert is, for me, a celebration of the life of a beautiful, beautiful man," he said. "A gentleman I knew, was so beautiful, and inspired the world with his art, and just his heart and his soul."

Post named Tree directly, telling the audience how the world lost him "the other day," then spoke to him: "I just want you to know dude, that we love you so very much. We love you brother, we love you." He then poured part of his beer out in remembrance before telling the crowd, "We're going to have a great night and celebrate this gentleman."

This was Post Malone's first tour show immediately following Tree's death.

Oliver Tree was known for hits including "Miss You" (which has nearly 800 million streams on Spotify), "When I'm Down," "Alien Boy," and "Life Goes On." The hip-hop, electronic, and pop artist was known for absurdist humor in his work. He was in the middle of his world tour—"The World's First World Tour," intended to span all 7 continents with more than 30 countries and 70 shows for his fourth album, "Love You Madly, Hate You Badly"—when the helicopter he was in crashed above an electric vehicle car lot in Rio de Janeiro.

The crash killed six people in total: pilot Charles Marsillac alone in one helicopter; and in the other, pilot Alexandre Souza, Oliver Tree, Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim, and Lucas Brito Chaves and Lucas Vignale. There were no survivors.

Tree had been scheduled to perform at Toronto's HISTORY venue on August 7. That tour has now been cancelled. Thousands of comments flooded social media following Post's dedication, with fans praising his visible grief and noting his history of honouring late friends in the music industry.
