One Toronto soccer fan could be heading to Houston today to cheer on Canada in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 against the Netherlands.
Dove Men+Care is hosting a one-day "Save A Seat" activation at Trinity Bellwoods Park on Thursday, July 2 from noon to 3 p.m. Fans simply need to show up, take a seat, and explain why they should be the one representing Canada in Houston. Organizers will reveal the winner before the day ends, and the successful fan will depart for Houston later Thursday to attend Friday's match.
No pre-registration required—just arrive at the park and make your pitch. Expect a symbolic "Save A Seat" installation, Canadian jerseys, flags, and chants throughout the afternoon.
The campaign was inspired by Canadian defender Alistair Johnston's viral call for supporters to "book the flights to Houston" after Canada's dramatic 1-0 victory over South Africa. Stephen Eustaquio scored the winner deep into stoppage time, securing Canada's first-ever World Cup Round of 16 appearance.
Canada will face the Netherlands on Friday with a spot in the quarter-finals on the line. Support for the national team has reached fever pitch across the city.
