K-pop megastars BTS played Rogers Stadium Saturday night after a weather delay forced fans to evacuate the venue, then return when the storm passed. The sold-out show marked the first time the South Korean group has performed in Toronto in over a decade—their last show here was at The Phoenix Concert Theatre in 2015.
Environment Canada issued a yellow warning for severe thunderstorms early Saturday evening, prompting Rogers Stadium to delay the concert. Thunder boomed and rain fell heavily at the outdoor Downsview venue around 7 p.m., and the stadium announced everyone needed to exit the grandstands and move to the fan plaza. But just before 8 p.m., organizers said the show would continue and fans could return to their seats. The band performed through the rain, with fans saying the weather made the experience more memorable.
Claudia Zanteno, who has followed BTS since 2018, wore a sailor hat from the band's 2026 "Swim" video and said their lyrics are personal in a way most artists don't deliver. Mai Shimla, another fan, hoped to hear "FYA." Naiess Karkan travelled from Niagara Falls for the show, saying BTS's message of unity and self-love is what brings the Army together.
The stage was set up in the middle of Rogers Stadium's floor, allowing fans at the back to see the performance—a setup that drew praise online for being far superior to typical venue configurations at the space.
BTS is touring its latest album with stops across North America, Europe and Latin America. The band went on hiatus in 2022 to allow members to focus on solo projects and fulfill mandatory military service in South Korea. The second Toronto show is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 24 at 8 p.m., with the Fan Plaza opening at 4:30 p.m. and the stadium at 5:30 p.m.
