Canada plays its first FIFA World Cup game on home soil Friday, June 12, against Bosnia-Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium.
The nation has never won a World Cup match, failing to secure a victory in 1986 and 2022. This marks the first time Canada has faced Bosnia-Herzegovina in international play.
Captain Alphonso Davies, the Bayern Munich star, will miss the match due to a hamstring injury he's still recovering from. Coach Jesse Marsch said Davies is progressing well but not ready for Friday. Defender Moïse Bombito, whose status was uncertain heading into the roster deadline after a broken leg recovery, will be available to play.
Toronto is one of 16 host cities for the tournament. Road closures across the city this weekend will affect travel to the stadium and surrounding neighborhoods.
