Ontario Premier Doug Ford has responded to President Donald Trump's comments that he is "not looking to renew" the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement on trade, saying the countries need each other.

Ford made the remarks after signing a memorandum of understanding with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro on Tuesday to strengthen the economic partnership between Ontario and the U.S. state.

When asked about Trump's statement that morning that the U.S. doesn't need anything from Canada, Ford emphasized the mutual dependence. "We do need each other," he said.

The CUSMA trade agreement, which replaced NAFTA in 2020, is a cornerstone of North American commerce. Trump's suggestion that he may not seek its renewal has raised concerns among Canadian businesses and government officials about potential tariffs and trade disruptions.
