Hayley Wickenheiser has parted ways with the Toronto Maple Leafs after eight seasons in the organization's front office.

Wickenheiser announced her departure Thursday in an Instagram post, saying she had expected to continue in a significant role after discussions with new GM John Chayka. "However, it became clear that his leadership group envisioned a different path," she wrote.

She joined the Maple Leafs in August 2018 as assistant director of player development and was promoted to assistant general manager in July 2022, overseeing the player development department.

Wickenheiser, a 2019 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, led Canada to four Olympic gold medals and seven world championships during her playing career. She is Canada's career points leader with 168 goals and 211 assists in 276 games.

"For the past eight seasons, it has been an incredible honour to work for the Toronto Maple Leafs," Wickenheiser wrote. "I have been immensely proud of the work our player development team has accomplished."

She was one of eleven Maple Leafs executives dismissed this week as Chayka reshapes the organization's leadership structure.
