A 20-year-old jet ski operator from Brampton has been charged after colliding with a lifeguard patrol vessel near Scarborough Bluffs on Thursday, July 2.
Toronto Police Marine Unit officers responded after a City of Toronto beach lifeguard was struck while patrolling a designated swim zone. The collision ejected the lifeguard into the water, and the worker sustained minor injuries. The jet ski operator continued riding before being directed to shore by another lifeguard.
Tristan Latchman was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance. The Marine Unit used the incident to remind all boaters and jet ski operators to operate safely, obey posted restrictions, maintain safe speeds, and remain clear of designated swim areas.
"The safety of lifeguards, swimmers, and everyone enjoying Toronto's waterfront depends on responsible operation," police said in a statement.
