Man linked to Toronto police corruption probe has global drug-trafficking ties

Gurpreet Singh, a Toronto man being investigated for potential involvement in a murder plot and facing extradition to the U.S. on drug charges, has far-reaching global criminal ties, according to newly unsealed court documents.
Singh, 32, is a co-accused of alleged cocaine kingpin Ryan Wedding, a former Team Canada Olympic snowboarder accused of leading a criminal enterprise that smuggled 60 tonnes of cocaine per year across North America. In 2024, Singh and his uncle, Hardeep Ratte, were arrested in the Toronto area after the U.S. Department of Justice unsealed an indictment targeting Wedding's network. Both men remain detained in a Toronto jail as U.S. prosecutors seek their extradition to Los Angeles.
Singh's name also appears in files from a separate high-profile Toronto police corruption probe. However, his lawyer, Brian Greenspan, stated this week that Singh has not been charged with any criminal offence in Canada, "despite untested allegations made public in search warrant documents."
The RCMP application, signed by Corp. Jonathan Hachey in 2024, alleges Singh is involved in "numerous" criminal activities and "knows all the major drug traffickers/transporters in Ontario and works with many groups," including an unnamed "U.K. person … who is a very big player in the drug-smuggling business." The documents allege Singh is also believed to have carried out killings himself.
According to court documents, Singh and Ratte coordinated drug shipments to Canada for a "flat rate" of $220,000 Canadian per transport truck load. A planned meeting with an FBI informant — Jonathan Acebedo-Garcia — was held at a Brampton auto body shop in February 2024. Unbeknownst to Singh and Ratte, the informant was wearing a recording device provided by the RCMP.
Wedding, the alleged kingpin, has been accused of leading a murderous criminal enterprise. An Ontario Superior Court justice ordered the unsealing of the partially redacted documents this month, following a request from Singh and Ratte's legal teams seeking further disclosure to support their extradition defence.
