Mayor Olivia Chow has hired a high-profile political strategist to help lead her re-election campaign. Andrew Bevan, who co-directed Prime Minister Mark Carney's 2025 federal campaign, will join Chow's team as campaign co-chair alongside Michal Hay.
Bevan is a familiar figure in Liberal campaigns, having worked on the campaigns of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and former Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne. His hiring might suggest Chow is positioning herself toward the political centre as she heads into the October 26 mayoral election.
But Bevan told media the move is not about shifting Chow's political base. "I'm not changing where the mayor is coming from or what she has had on offer in the past and what she has achieved," he said.
A recent poll found that if the election occurred today, Chow would earn 49 per cent of the decided vote, with her leading mayoral rival Brad Bradford taking 40 per cent.
