Members of the Ontario provincial government are heading into an extended summer break following Premier Doug Ford's decision to adjourn the legislature before the fall session.

The break extends over five months, following a winter vacation that lasted more than three months. Ford said he prefers having MPPs out in their communities engaging with residents rather than spending time "arguing with each other" during Question Period.

The extended break comes ahead of potential cabinet changes and offers the government a chance to reset public opinion. The legislature has faced significant scrutiny in recent months, and the prolonged break may provide political space to reorganize before returning to session in the fall.
