An Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged with assault and assault with a weapon following an incident during a traffic stop in January.
Kevin Noh, a 35-year-old from Richmond Hill, was charged on July 24 in connection with an incident on January 2, when he conducted a traffic stop on Yonge Street in North York using an unmarked cruiser. According to an OPP professional standards unit release, Noh discharged a conducted energy weapon—a taser—during the stop.
The driver of the stopped vehicle was arrested and taken to hospital for assessment. Following the incident, the professional standards unit launched an investigation into the circumstances of the arrest.
Noh has been a constable with the OPP for nine years. He works with the Highway Safety Division and is currently assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of his case. He is scheduled to appear in court in October.
