Chiara Padovani defeated incumbent Ward 5 York South-Weston councillor Frances Nunziata in Monday's municipal election. Padovani had lost to Nunziata by 94 votes in 2022. Nunziata, who served on council for 28 years and previously was mayor of the former City of York, finished third with 7,441 votes. Daniel Di Giorgio came second with 8,881 votes, according to the city's unofficial results. Padovani received 13,407.

The ward result is one of several changes. Nineteen of the 25 councillors seeking re-election won another term, and newcomers took seats in Parkdale-High Park, Toronto Centre, Toronto-Danforth and Scarborough North.

In Ward 4 Parkdale-High Park, Diana Chan McNally, a community advocate and outreach worker, was elected to replace Gord Perks, who did not seek re-election. McNally received 20,314 votes.

In Ward 11 University-Rosedale, Mike Layton returned to council with 19,388 votes. Layton had held the seat from 2010 to 2022, after which Dianne Saxe won it. Saxe ran in Toronto-Danforth after councillor Paula Fletcher announced her retirement.

In Ward 13 Toronto Centre, Curran Stikuts defeated incumbent Chris Moise, 11,877 votes to 9,690. Moise was first elected in 2022. HighOnCity reported on Aug. 19 that University-Rosedale was the most contested ward with 11 candidates.

In Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth, Sara Ehrhardt won over former councillor Mary Fragedakis and Dianne Saxe. The source does not give Ehrhardt's vote total. Results in Scarborough North are not in the material available.
