The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a recall Thursday for PK brand Roasted Lemon N' Chilli Peanuts sold in Ontario and Quebec due to possible salmonella contamination.

The recalled product comes in 65-gram packages marked with best-before code "BB: 2027/JN/20" and batch number "CN94." The CFIA instructed consumers to throw out the peanuts or return them to the store where they were purchased.

Salmonella-contaminated food may not look or smell spoiled, the CFIA warned. Healthy people may experience fever, headaches and vomiting from the bacteria. People with weakened immune systems face serious risk and may contract deadly infections.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall so far. The agency has not specified how many packages were distributed, specific retail locations where the product was sold, or whether the contamination extends beyond Ontario and Quebec. The CFIA has also not stated when it expects to update its illness count or close the investigation.

This recall follows earlier food safety incidents. HighOnCity reported in August that Whole Foods recalled salsas and guacamole linked to a U.S. salmonella outbreak, and in July that Dollarama recalled Heavenly Spices garlic powder over contamination risk.
