Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation has received a $100 million anonymous donation, the largest gift for cancer care in Canadian history. The donor was inspired by a personal connection to cancer and the charity's mission to create a world free from cancer.

The donation is part of the foundation's $2.5 billion "Carry the Fire" fundraising campaign, which aims to accelerate research, treatment and care at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The campaign focuses on three priorities: catching cancer at its earliest stages, advancing new approaches to cancer treatment, and transforming the cancer experience for patients through survivorship, rehabilitation, mental health resources and holistic support.

Dr. Mito Yamashita, President and CEO of Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, said the gift is transformative for cancer research. "This is a moment of real opportunity, and we can meet this challenge. The Princess Margaret has the talent, the model, and, with the driving support of philanthropy, the momentum," he said in a statement. Yamashita offered no hints about the donor's identity, which remains unknown.
