Scarborough's busway opens tomorrow, September 30, replacing the route of the former Scarborough Line 3 rail service with a new bus corridor that Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said will save 120,000 weekly riders over an hour of travel time.
The four-kilometre busway begins at Kennedy Station and serves stops at Tara Avenue and Mooregate Avenue, Lawrence East Station, and Ellesmere Station. From there, buses use priority infrastructure on Ellesmere Road to connect to Scarborough Town Centre. Multiple bus routes will run the corridor.
Chow announced the September opening in December 2025 — more than six months ahead of the original schedule. "Each week, 120,000 riders will save over an hour travelling on the speedy busway," Chow said at a news conference Thursday.
Michael Thompson, the local councillor, TTC CEO Mandeep Lali, and TTC chair and councillor Jamaal Myers attended the announcement. The project represents a major acceleration in transit service for the suburb after as reported earlier this year, residents had faced constant ticketing on local streets with limited legal parking options.
