City of Toronto celebrates opening of affordable rental homes in Etobicoke Thursday

The City of Toronto and the Government of Canada will celebrate the opening of new affordable rental homes in Etobicoke Thursday morning, marking another step in the city's effort to address the housing shortage.

The event takes place Thursday, September 10 at 9 a.m. at the courtyard between 15 and 25 Gibbs Rd., where representatives from the city, development partner KingSett Capital Affordable Housing LP, and housing sector leaders will speak about the project and its role in Toronto's affordable housing plan. The units are being delivered by WoodGreen Community Housing at 25 Gibbs Rd.

This opening comes as Toronto is home to more than three million people. The city's Housing Action Plan update shows affordable and rent-controlled homes have been approved since 2020, with city-led projects driving growth in new housing starts in recent years.

The city has not disclosed the affordability level and rent range for the units at this location, or how the project specifically fits into broader delivery targets for 2026.
