Toronto police are investigating an early-morning fire and explosion at a Midtown restaurant near Eglinton Avenue W. and Bathurst Street as suspected arson.
Officers responded to calls around 2:43 a.m. Wednesday. Toronto Fire escalated the incident to a 1-alarm fire after crews reported heavy smoke going into and out of the building. Two adjacent buildings sustained damage from the blast. Paramedics assessed four people at the scene, but no one required transport to hospital.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze and remain on site for a fire watch as the investigation continues. Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
