The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority issued a flood warning Thursday as heavy overnight rainfall continued across the region.

Flooding is already occurring in several watersheds, particularly along the Lower Don River near Todmorden Mills and the Bayview Avenue Extension south of Pottery Road near the Brick Works. Rainfall totals have ranged from 20 mm to 67 mm across TRCA watersheds, leaving the ground saturated and reducing its ability to absorb additional water.

Water levels in Etobicoke Creek and Carruthers Creek are still rising and have not yet reached their peak. Environment Canada warned of additional 5 to 20 mm of rain expected throughout Thursday, along with southwesterly wind gusts up to 70 km/h.

The TRCA is urging residents to avoid flooded areas and exercise caution around all bodies of water. Fast-moving water, unstable banks, and flooded roadways pose significant safety risks. Motorists are advised to check traffic conditions before travelling and avoid flooded routes. All rivers, streams, shorelines, floodplains and low-lying areas should be considered dangerous due to elevated water levels.
