York Regional Police arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with the 2022 death of Roman Perelstein, an Aurora resident whose remains were found along a trail in Pickering nearly four years ago.

Perelstein was reported missing by his family on August 30, 2022, after last being seen in the area of Bathurst Street and Orchard Heights Boulevard in Aurora several weeks prior. On August 21 of that year — before the missing-person report — human remains were discovered along a trail near Sideline 20 and Concession Road 8 in Pickering. Police were unable to identify them at the time due to the condition of the remains.

In March 2025, investigators identified the remains as Perelstein's through dental records. His death was subsequently ruled a homicide.

Suren Khizguiiaev of Harwich Township was charged on May 21, 2026, with accessory after the fact to murder and indignity to a dead body. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
