Grouse Mountain's Gravity Coaster Now Open
New 1,434-metre mountain coaster launches with epic city views and anti-collision tech for safe thrills.
Grouse Mountain's newest attraction opened to the public Wednesday: the Gravity Coaster, a gravity-fed mountain ride that drops riders 919 metres downhill through a scenic weave of trees and twists.
The permanent 1,434-metre track, designed and manufactured by Aquatic Development Group, features named sections including "Nose Dive," "Tailspin," and "The Chimney." Riders control their own speed via handlebar brakes and can reach up to 45 km/hr. The 515-metre return ascent brings riders back to the mountaintop without exiting the car.
The coaster's opening coincides with Grouse's centennial anniversary and follows the success of similar attractions at the company's Revelstoke resort. Adam Rootman, senior director of marketing and communications, told Daily Hive the ride addresses demand for year-round activities. "It's a great opportunity for locals and tourists to experience some new thrills and epic views."
Safety features include anti-collision technology with track sensors preventing cart-to-cart contact. Height restrictions apply: single riders must be at least 132 cm tall; children aged 3–8 must ride on an adult's lap (minimum 92 cm, maximum shoulder height) with an adult 16 or older. Maximum combined weight is 140 kg.
Opening day featured sunny, clear weather with perfect visibility of the city below. The coaster operates daily with various time slots.
