Short-Track Speed Skating Returns to Vancouver This Fall
International skaters compete at Pacific Coliseum for first time since 2010 Olympics, bringing back Olympic nostalgia and world-class competition.
Vancouver's Olympic legacy is getting a fresh coat of ice this October. The ISU Short Track World Tour is coming back to the city for the first time since the 2010 Winter Games, with the first leg of the circuit touching down at Pacific Coliseum from October 23 to 25.
It's a homecoming of sorts. Back in 2010, Canadian short-trackers hauled in five of the country's 26 total medals, with Charles Hamelin — one of the most decorated winter Olympic athletes in Canadian history — snagging two golds in the men's 500-metre and the 5,000-metre relay. The event carries real weight for the city's skating community and for fans who remember those Games.
What's interesting is the shape of the sport now. Courtney Sarault dominated last year's ISU tour, accumulating 986 points and ranking first overall, while also becoming the first Canadian woman to win four short-track medals at a single Olympic Games (Milan, 2026). William Dandjinou cleaned up on last year's circuit too, collecting 876 points and finishing first. These aren't household names yet, but they're the athletes defining the sport's next chapter.
The International Skating Union is also bringing events to Montreal right after Vancouver, and long-track speed skating will land in Calgary next year. It's part of a broader tour cycling world-class competition back through Canada — a reminder that Olympic infrastructure and passion don't evaporate once the closing ceremony ends.
