Surrey council to approve $3M fleet renewal
Council votes Monday on purchasing 15 trucks and three vans to replace aging vehicles that have reached the end of their service life.
Surrey council will vote Monday on a $2,982,634 purchase of 15 trucks and three vans to refresh the city's aging fleet.
The contract with Metro Motors Ltd. includes three heavy-duty trucks and five winter maintenance vehicles, plus 10 additional replacements: three medium-duty trucks, four light-duty trucks, and three vans. Scott Neuman, Surrey's general manager of engineering, says the existing vehicles have reached the end of their service life due to age and condition.
The fleet serves essential city operations, from winter road treatment to general municipal services. Aging vehicles increase maintenance costs and downtime, making replacement both a reliability and budget issue over time.
The vote comes as part of routine capital planning, though in a region where infrastructure spending remains contentious, council will need to justify the expense to residents already managing higher costs of living.
